Where a security guard sits in this state
Security guards are covered by statutory Security Guards Boards, which fix wages separately from the shops schedule. The Mumbai and Thane board's floor for January-June 2026 was ₹17,357 a month — above the shops rate shown here.
Wage zones / categories
- Zone I — municipal corporation areas, cantonments and adjoining industrial areas (Mumbai, Thane, Pune, Nagpur).
- Zone II — 'A' and 'B' grade municipal council areas.
- Zone III — the rest of the state.
What to watch with this state's rate
- Maharashtra revises minimum wages every six months, in January and July. The July revision was notified only on 5 August 2026, so arrears run from 1 July.
- A house-rent allowance of 5% applies only where an establishment employs more than 50 workers — confirm your headcount before applying it.
- For a security deployment, check the separate Security Guards Board rate, which is often higher than the general shops rate.
Maharashtra minimum wage — common questions
How often does Maharashtra revise minimum wages?
Twice a year, with revisions taking effect in January and July. The notification usually follows the effective date by some weeks, so a July revision can be published in August with arrears payable from 1 July.
Does a security guard in Maharashtra get the shops rate or a different one?
Security guards fall under statutory Security Guards Boards, which set their own wages. For Mumbai and Thane the board rate for the first half of 2026 was higher than the general shops rate, so a guard deployment should be priced on the board's figure, not the shops schedule.
